ahem yes i am attempting to save my face (which is currently in the rubbish dump) by uploading the UN-coloured version of my copy of the girl with the pearl earring here. i took it with my handphone last time, just dug it up today lols. anw the resolution is hmm, acceptable.

hm apparently this is much much much more viewable than the painted version haha. i am always very uncomfortable when i need to paint =\ hardly ever practise and only paint when there is a crucial, do-or-die need (aka for block tests and coursework lols). haha maybe i will pract more in the future, provided i pass the upcoming eoys D:

haha seem i got some obsession with rose lols. hm maybe i could have made some pattern on the leaf, but it was just too small =\i was thinking of flattening the ribbon too, then can see the turns more clearly, but again, too small =\ haha experimenting how to make a nice rose was fun. the first few tries look like cabbages lols!

this was the original sketch hahaha it looked more female and fiercer. its fun to draw asymmetrical eyes, see, if you cover different sides of the face, the character will give a different feel

below is my research and final piece for block test two the idea is that one fine day, the artistic dolly decided to have some fun with the art materials lying around…

anyway i am quite happy with the research work this round. much more organised than my research from last year haha. drawing a guitar was soooo hard D: the guitar (which is not uploaded here) from my first few tries look pregnant …very fat and…pregnant lols!. and there was this super cool pic of this super cool guitar. it was called god’s guitar or something. freaking cool, spikes and claws and so stylo hahaha
i shall rant a bit more about the concept development. at first i wanted to use the idea of “overplaying”, like excessive playing cause damage (especially to the toys) so kinda of thinking a picture whereby the dolls are out for revenge (yay). then it morphed somemore, and i was soon working along the line of “toys for toys”. then the idea mutated and underwent hybrid-ation and i began working on the idea of the artistic dolly (who looked very much alike us lols) playing. and since its an artistic dolly, it should be art orientated = play with art material. and hence this is how my final idea came about woohoo i crapped a paragraph!

hahaha my painting make me thin of microsoft word clip arts :X one thing i could have improved on is the background. the background could have more shades of colour rather than one solid green patch. i tried to amend that by adding in yellow splatters and stars, but it still seem very solid and flat =/ using different shades of colour would help to make the picture look more 3D and bring out the colours of the dolly. another thing i am not so satisfied with is the legs of the dolly. the perspective seem a little weird for the right leg and the left leg could be a little straighter. i could also add some shadows to the picture to make it more 3D, especially for the parts which are further, like the left leg. (anw this picture also reminds me of xmas lols!) i could try to put some stars in the foreground, instead of everything in the background, so to make the picture feel more “interactive” (interaction btwn the dolly and stars hohoho)

this are bits and pieces of a draft design for the t-shirt of a ruan ensemble that my friend joined outside school. its not used in the end but anyway i am still posting it here
the ruan and liuqin made to like faces (hahaha and it looks toot ) hmm should make the lines a little thicker…seem a little invisible here…
this was for the front of the tee. just a sketchy design. the boarder is meant to look like the chinese styled windows

hahaha this was a veryveryvery old font design thing we did during art lesson we are suppose to design the font with refernce to the meaning of the word
i liked the volatile font design it look very ready-to-go-boom lols! perhaps i should not include the tail for the bomb for the “o” in volatile. cos it kind of make it look like an “a” instead. i used thermometors cos thermometer = temperature, and high temperature = boom
for the interval design i was trying to literally intervene between blue and white, and also create a relaxing feel by making it very rounded and curly lols!

this was an exercise done last year. i chose the painting girl with the pearl earring cos its just so pretty haha. my version is unsightly, but i am still putting it up here. sorry vermeer D:

oh my god i mei2 lian3 jian3 ren2 le -throws face away-
anyway i shall start criticizing my piece (looks at agenda)
comments criticisms:
1) the colour is wayyy off. the one i did is too orangy and much darker than the original =\ the orginal is more greyish, especially the blue headcloth. i should make the orangy parts yellower and lighter and the blue a little duller and faded.
2) the face -zomg- i defintely should have blended more D: it look veryveryvery blocky and thats defintely a different way of colouring from the original, cos the original blended all the colours in and there is hardly any “line” so as to say =\ i think mine look like a cubism version of the original lols…very angular and sharp about the edges
3)and that leads on the the next problem: dimensions and space. mine is flat, compressed, squished. because i did not blend in the colours properly, i couldnt show the shadows naturally, which inevitably resulted in the perspective being very queer, and flattened the painting (phew wat a long sentence) and i should have created some texture for the headcloth to make it look more realistic =\ it look very flimsy and transparent-ish as compared with the original.
4) the pearl i painted look very dull and worn =\ i should add more shine to the pearl and vary the tones more. the contrast would help to bring out the sheen off the pearl.
4) the background. i used black and dark blue mostly for my background, and it ended up looking very flat D: so basically it made the picture seem even flatter. i should mix other colours, perhaps dark green, into the background to give it depth. hmm it seem to be a trend in my paintings that the background lacked depth and flattens the picture. should take note of this the next time i paint.
5) there is something wrong with the propotion. the head seem too big for the body =\ and i should NOT have outlined the eyes. it make the girl zombie-ish (smoky makeup lols)
6) i think i can go on for another hour but i shall end here now and go emo in a corner -weeps-
